Deborah Steinkopf

I am an experienced nonprofit professional with 30+ years working for social change. My roots are in Chicago, but I have been living and working for nonprofits in Portland since 2009. I have helped nonprofits increase organizational effectiveness and mission impact, in both salaried and consulting capacities. I have worked with nonprofit start-ups, nonprofits with strong brand identities, and nonprofits in transition. I have also served on nonprofit boards, government advisory committees, and coalitions.

As a leader and a collaborative partner, I help build organizational capacity, scale programs, assemble effective staff teams, and secure public and private financing to support these efforts. I’m a natural strategist. In every organization I have worked, I played a lead role in growing contributed revenue and government contracts.

Since launching my consulting practice in 2016, I have worked with 48 nonprofits with diverse missions. I’m a frequent presenter and guest lecturer on government funding for PSU’s certificate in fundraising and have published articles on grant strategy in the Journal of the Grant Professionals Association. I have a Master’s in Social Work and a Master’s in Public Policy from SUNY Albany.

In thinking about how to build organizational capacity to do more good, I come from a place of abundance that centers equity, inclusion, and belonging. I enjoy exploring how organizations can offer opportunities for everyone who cares about your mission to support it through the lens of shared values.

I want to hear more about your efforts to build a strong and caring community and how I can help. Get in touch.
